Fellow Nigerians,

1. I am delighted to present this budget speech, the first by our great and mighty party since we defeated and humiliated the grossly overrated opposition party in the March 28 presidential elections and achieved for ourselves, and our God, a great triumph in the eyes of Nigerians and of the entire world.

I was one of those who would immediately turn up their noses whenever the expression ‘baby mama’ was used. Don’t blame me. I just couldn’t understand it. What exactly did it mean? Are there, perhaps, any babies without mamas? It is just like the common expression ‘love child’. Do we also have ‘hate child’? I didn’t think so. But I digress.

According to an article in the Christmas edition of The Economist, 105 years ago when Africa had a population of about 100 million, roughly nine per cent was Christian. With a population of nearly one billion today, the continent’s Christian population has grown to 55 per cent or 550 million, the fastest in any region in the world.
